Pattern- A repeated arrangement of numbers, shapes, colours and so on.
Pattern RuleThe rule that a pattern follows. Can be represented with words or an algebraicexpression.
T ChartA T-chart is an organisational tool to help solve equations.
Term numberTerm number determines which value is being represented in an algebraic pattern. (Left side of the T- Chart)
Term ValueIn math, value is a number signifying the result of a calculation or function. The value of a given term in a pattern.
IncreaseThe amount the value goes up each term in a pattern.
DecreaseThe amount the value goes down for each term in a pattern.
Growing Pattern- A pattern that increases in value each term.
Shrinking Pattern- A pattern that decreases in value each term.
Constants- Elements of an equation that always stay the same.
Variable- Elements of an equation that can have different values based on different circumstances, are represented with letters.
Independent Variable- A variable that the user of the equation can change based on their needs (find the nth term)
Dependent Variable- A variable that changes based on the value of the independent variable. (y)
Linear Equation- A pattern that increases or decreases by the same amount each term. Is expressed using the equation y = mx + b.
Non-Linear Equation- A pattern that increases or decreases by a different amount each term.
Cartesian Plane- A graph made of two perpendicular lines that cross each other, creating four quadrants. The X and Y axis have both positive and negative values on them.
