Industrialisation

Cards (3)

  • HICs
HICs mostly saw their industrial revolution in the 18th century. This was when most people did rural to Urban migration looking for work, causing urbanisation in the UK. Now, deindustrialization has taken place. This means that our factories and manufacturing have closed and gone to less developed countries. Older generations are now moving away from the city for retirement in counter urbanisation. This has slowed the rate of urbanisation in the U.K.
  • NEEs
NEEs are now going through their industrial revolution, causing lots of rural to Urban migration in search of better paid jobs. This leads to urbanisation as there is a greater percentage of the population living in cities compared to rural places.
  • LICs
LICs are now starting to see more Urban growth and an increase in urbanisation. This is largely due to natural increase and rural to Urban migration. The natural increase is rising because LIC are starting t improve their healthcare and education around hygiene and sanitation, leading to healthier babies. Rural to Urban migration is taking place because people are searching for higher skilled and better paying jobs in the city.
