  • There are 2 forms of power sharing -
    1. Vertical
    2. Horizontal
  • In vertical power sharing, the powers are shared between different levels of government.
  • In horizontal power sharing, the powers are shared within the same level of government.
  • The Constitution provides for both vertical and horizontal power-sharing arrangements.
  • The Constitution also provides for horizontal power sharing through the system of checks and balances where different organs of government have separate functions to prevent any one organ from becoming too powerful.
  • Power is divided among three lists - Union List, State List, and Concurrent List.
  • Power Sharing is important because it ensures that no single person or group has complete control over the government.
