  • GDP is the Gross Domestic Product - money made by a country / the population and calculates the average income.
  • Highest grades in rich London boroughs and lowest grades in northern England towns. Reflects link between poverty and educational achievement. Deprived areas with higher unemployment rates score lower.
  • Many ethnic groups live in deprived areas with limited job security and low incomes. Diversity can be beneficial - traditions and culture.
  • High availability to broadband in populated areas e.g. London but low availability in more remote areas e.g. Wales. Many small pockets of low availability within areas with high availability. 96% of home had broadband in 2019.
  • Life expectancy is lower in the North and higher in the South. Reflects differences in quality of life and lifestyle factors such as smoking or poor diets.
  • Disposable income is greater in the South than the North.
  • Disparities in income in the UK - footballers earn over £500,000 a week. National living wage for 23+ year olds is £8.91 an hour in 2021.
  • Huge imbalances (hidden) in London - almost 10,000 homeless.
  • Areas in the south have higher house prices than the north.
  • North is run by the public sector (government) whereas the south in dominant in the private sector (industry run by rich).
