Through observing aggressive models such as siblings ,parents, peers and characters in the media
Observe the consequences of their behaviour, if aggressive behaviour is rewarded or at least not punished the child learns that aggression can be effective in getting what they want- this is known as vicarious reinforcement
VR - makes it more likely that the observing child will imitate the models aggressive behaviour.
Level of imitation also depends on identification with the role model. If we share characteristics with the role model or want to be like them we are more likely to copy their aggressive behaviour if they show any.
Attention :basic cognitive requirement is that the observer must pay attention to the model's aggressive actions
Retention: the observer also needs to be able to remember the model's aggressive actions to form a mental representation of how the behaviour is performed
Reproduction: is evaluating our own ability to conduct the same aggressive action, imitation can only occur if we decide we have the ability to transform what we observed into action
Motivation: though individual needs a reason to imitate the behaviour which will depend on his or her drive to recreate the aggressive behaviour that behaving aggressively in a specific way in a specific situation will be rewarded
