Work and Power

• The more work a force does, the more energy it transfers.
• Work done = energy transferred
• The heavier an object and the higher it is lifted, the higher the g.p.e. is.
• The size of force/the greater the force, the more work it does.
• The further the distance something moves, the more work it does.
• Work done by a force = Force x distance
• Work's unit is J (Joules).
• When a force does work, it transfers energy to the object it is acting on.
• Work = change in energy
• Power is the rate at which a force does work or the rate at which it transfers energy.
• To increase your power, lift a heavier object in the same time or lift the object more quickly.
• Power = work done/time taken or energy transferred/time taken.
• Power is measured in (W), watts.
• A watt is a Joule/second
