The Particle Model, Motion in Gases and Density

Cards (6)

  • What are the three states of matter
    Solid, Liquid, Gas
  • For each state of matter, describe the arrangement of the particles
    Solid - dense, particles are closer together
    Liquid - less dense, particles are still touching but with more gaps
    Gas - even lesser dense, particles not longer touching
  • Explain how a gas in a sealed container exerts a pressure on the walls of container
    Due gas particles not touching, they freely move. Meaning they make contact with the walls and sides of the container which increases pressure
  • What is the formula for density?
    Density = mass/volume
  • True or false? Solids and usually denser than gases
    True
  • Describe how you could find the volume of an irregular solid objects
    1. Weigh solid object
    2. Get a large measuring cylinder and fill it will water
    3. measure initial volume
    4. place object in it
    5. measure volume of water fallen out of cylinder.
