convex and concave lenses

Cards (13)

  • What is convex lens?
convex lenses are thicker at the middle than the edges. Rays of light that pass through the covex lens converge. So, a convex lens is also called a converging lens. A magnifying glass is aconvex lens which produces a magnified (larger) image of an object.
  • What are the uses of a convex lens?
Convex lenses are used in microscopes and magnifying glasses, in glasses to correct farsightedness or hypermetropia.
  • Whats the function of a convex lens?
A convex lens causes parallel rays to come to a focus.
  • Whats the form of a convex lens?
The centre of the lens is thicker than the edges.
  • How do objects appear in a convex lens?
    It appears closer and larger.
  • What is focus?
Focus is a point at which rays of light meet after being refracted or reflected.
  • Whats a focal length?
The distance between the centre of a lens or curved mirror and iys focus.
  • What are some uses of lenses?
Lenses are used to make binoculars, telescopes, peepholes, glasses etc.
  • What is a concave lens?
Concave lenses are thinner at the middle than the edges. Rays of light that pass through the concave lens diverge or spread out. So, a concave lens is also called a diverging lens. The image formed is virtual and diminished (smaller).
  • What are the uses of a concave lens?
It is used in binoculars and telescopes, in glasses to correct nearsightedness also called myopia, in flashlights to magnify the light produced, in peepholes, and lasers.
  • Whats the function of a concave lens?
A concave lens causes all rays to diverge.
  • How do objects appear in a concave lens?
    They appear smaller and farther
  • Whats the form of a concave lens?
centre of the lens is thinner than the edges.
