Newtons second law of motion

Cards (7)

  • What happens if the resultant force is not zero?
    The objects velocity will change.
  • What is newtons second law of motion?
The acceleration of an object is proportional to the resultant force acting on the object and inversely proportional to the mass of the object.
  • What equation do we use to calculate the force needed to accelerate an object?
    Force (N) = Mass (Kg) x Acceleration (m/s/s)
  • At what speed to cars travel on a main road or on a motorway?
    Main road- 13 m/s
    Motorway- 30 m/s
  • What is the acceleration from a main road to a motorway?
    2 m/s/s , for a family car, that would require a force of 2000 N.
  • What is inertia?
Objects will stay still or keep the same motion unless you apply a resultant force.
  • What is inertial mass?
A measure of how difficult it is to change the velocity of an object. It's defined as the ratio of the force needed to accelerate an object over the acceleration produced. The larger the inertial mass, the larger the force needed to produce a given acceleration.
