natural cloning in plants

    Cards (4)

      • A clone is a genetically identical copy of the parent.
      • It is produced by mitosis rather than meiosis
      • Natural cloning in plants is asexual reproduction that occurs in plants.
      • It normally happens through a process called vegetative propagation
      • Plant growth occurs through mitosis and cell elongation.
      • Stem cells (areas of undifferentiated cells with the ability to differentiate into specialised cells) are found in parts of the plant called meristems.
    • How to take a cutting
      1. Cut a shoot from a healthy plant/ healthy shoot.
      2. Cut the stem at a slant.
      3. Make the cut between nodes (not at a meristem).
      4. Dip the cut shoot in rooting powder (auxin hormone) before planting.
      5. Remove leaves close to the cut.
      6. Place in soil and add water/ keep well watered
      7. .Place a plastic bag or plastic cover over for the first few days to reduce water loss through transpiration.
