  • Population:
all the individuals of one species in a particular area
  • Community:
All the interactions of all the living organisms in a particular area
  • A stable community is one where all the species and environmental factors are in balance so that population sizes remain fairly constant.
A population refers to all the organisms of one species found in a particular area.
Whereas a community is all the populations of different organisms living together in a habitat
  • interspecific competition - Competition between different species trying to occupy the same niche.
    1. Predator eats prey so prey decreases.
    2. Fewer prey means there is a greater competition between the predators for resources.
    3. Predator population decreases as some cannot eat enough prey.
    4. Fewer predators means prey numbers increase.
    5. More prey = more predators.
