Glycogen

Cards (5)

  • Glycogen is the storage polymer in animal cells (and some fungi). It is mainly found in muscle and liver cells
  • Glycogen is a highly branched form of alpha-glucose, (1,6) branches, more branched than amylopectin. This structure allows it to be rapidly broken down into glucose for use in respiration.
  • glycogen is insoluble for storage = no effect on osmosis
  • glycogen has a non-helical shape
  • Glycogen is more highly branched than amylopectin
