cell theory
: all organisms are made up of
cells
which are the
basic
unit of life and arise from
pre-existing cells
cell/plasma membrane:
outer boundary of the cell that regulates the transport of materials
cytoplasm:
jelly like substance inside the cell and all the organelles suspended with in it
cytosol:
fluid part of the cytoplasm
cytoskeleton:
consists of microfilaments and microtubules that give cell shape and assists the movement of materials, organelles or the whole cell
organelles:
microscopic structures within the cell
nucelus:
control centre of the cell that contains genetic material
nuclear membrane:
separates the nucleus from the cytoplasm
nuclear pore:
gaps in the nuclear membrane that allows large molecules to enter and leave nucleus
nucleolus
: manufactures and stores RNA
ribosome:
amino acids
join at the ribosomes to create
proteins
endoplasmic reticulum: used for
transporting
and
storing
materials (mainly
proteins
)
lysosome: contains
digestive enzymes
able to break down
substances
and worn out
organelles
Golgi body:
modifies proteins
and
packages
them in
vesicles
for
secretion
from the cell
mitochondria: site of
aerobic respiration for energy production
centrioles:
pair of cylindrical structures involved in reproduction of the cell
inclusions:
substances that are not part of the cell structure but are found in the cytoplasm
