Group 1

Cards (4)

  • Properties:
-very reactive - one electron in their outer shell which can be lost to get a full outer shell
-silvery solids - stored in paraffin
-Metal + water -> metal hydroxide + hydrogen
  • Lithium- effervescence
Sodium- effervescence and forms a ball
Potassium- effervescence and burns with a lilac flame
  • Reactivity increases as:
    -more outer electron shells
-outermost electron is further away from the positive nucleus
-outermost electron experiences less attraction from the positive nucleus
    -electron is lost more easily
  • Group 1:
-all elements in this group are metals, therefore the bonding is metallic
