    • Form: shapes, volume or perceived volume, width, and height
  • Elements of Visual Arts:
    • Line: interval between two points, can be extended indefinitely, foundation of drawing, versatile in suggesting shape, pattern, form, structure, growth, depth, distance, rhythm, movement, and emotions
    • Shape: result of lines enclosing an area, has two categories - geometric and organic
    • Color: expressive element of art, powerful connection with emotion, properties include hue, intensity, value, and color harmonies
    • Space: related to shape and form, inferred from a sense of depth
    • Texture: defined as how the surface of the material feels and looks like
  • Properties of Colors:
    • Hue: gives name to color, subdivided into primary (R,Y, B), secondary (G,O,V), and tertiary (mixed) colors
    • Intensity: brightness or dullness of color, bright/warm colors convey positive energy, dull/cool colors convey calmness
    • Value: brightness or darkness of color, light colors are a source of light, dark colors lack light
    • Harmonies of Colors:
    • Monochromatic: variations of a hue
    • Complementary: 2 colors opposite each other in the color wheel
    • Analogous: 2 colors beside each other in the color wheel
  • Properties of Lines:
    • Curved lines: allude to softness, grace, flexibility, or sensuality
    • Horizontal lines: associated with rest or calm, parallel to the ground
    • Vertical lines: connote elevation or height, exaltation or aspiration for action
    • Diagonal lines: convey movement and instability
    • Crooked or Jagged lines: reminiscent of violence, conflict, or struggle

    • Rhythm: tones and silences of varying durations moving through time
    • Dynamics: loudness or softness of a sound
  • Elements of Auditory Arts:
    • Melody: pitch added to rhythm, includes tune, air, theme, motif, and melodic line
    • Harmony: simultaneous sounding of tones, melody is horizontal aspect while harmony is vertical side
    • Timbre: quality that distinguishes one sound from another
