  • Baptism connects people to Jesus; his work comes from God’s love and reaches completion in Holy Spirit
  • Christian Baptism essential words= baptised in the name of the Holy spirit, you observe all commands as you are one.
  • Adam and Eve misused free will and desired something they were not entitled. This disobedience is the first sin, which they gave to everyone.
  • Original living in harmony: original justice/holiness
  • God sent Jesus to redeem humanity from this sin through the Sacrament of Baptism, they become a new person in Christ (erases sin and turns you back to God).

  • Baptism not the cause of salvation – infant baptism is justified by an act of Christ and through holy spirit/ministers the grace that baptism signifies is communicated
  • Certain denominations (e.g., Baptists, Lutherans) believe Baptism is not necessary for Salvation and do not permit infant baptism (excluding Lutherans) as it must be preceded by Christ commitment/faith.
  • Old Covenant made by God with Moses and Chosen people, fulfilled in New Covenant which is sealed with blood of Christ.
  • Covenant between God and chosen people prepared way for new uniting covenant where Jesus gave his life for mankind.
  • All baptised belong to Christ as marked by the Sign of the Cross – signals relationship change.
  • Through Baptism, a person shares priesthood with Christ – called from dark to light, no pity to pity, non-people to God’s person. Oil of Chrism symbolises this sharing.
  • Salvation made possible due to incarnation – Jesus is fully human and fully divine, a life-giving spirit.
  • Jesus as the revelation of God, equality to God, his divinityGod in person. Message of God’s love and victory in person, he lived among us and we saw his glory, grace and truth.
  • Christians are saved through faith in Jesus Christ who offers salvation to all.
  • Jesus died on cross to save humanity from sin and death; resurrection shows victory over evil and death.
