  • Microscope
It is used to magnify many things that can be seen by the naked eye
  • Microscope
It is an important investigate tool used for studying objects and organisms around us.
  • Things that can be seen using a microscope
    Plant cell, Animal Cell, Microorganisms
  • Resolution
Its is the capacity of a microscope to distinguish small gaps between two separate point which human contact cannot distinguish
  • Compound microscope
Optical microscope that uses visible light to form an image, it uses glass lenses to magnify and resolve images
  • 3 Major parts of a microscope
    Magnifying, Illuminating, Mechanical parts
  • Magnifying
Parts that make the specimen look bigger.
  • Specimen
Is an object or an organisms that we study or examine.
  • Eyepiece/Ocular lens
Where the viewer looks and sees the magnified image. (have 10x magnification)
  • Objective lenses
The major lense used for specimen visualization
  • Objective lense parts (Low power)
It has a magnification power of 10x. It is used to see the general outline of the specimen
  • Objective lense parts (High power)
It has a magnification power of 40x. It is used to view structures from a large perspective.
  • Objective lense parts (Oil immersion)

It has a magnification power of 100x. It requires the use of special oil.
  • Illuminating party
The parts of the microscope that supply and regulate light toward the specimen
  • Mirror
It reflects light from external light source through the bottom of the stage which illuminates the specimen
  • Iris diaphragm
It controls the amount of light that reaches the specimen.
  • Stage condenser
It collects and focuses the light from the mirror to the specimen.
  • Mechanical parts
These parts are used for support and in adjusting the different parts of the microscope
  • Bodytube
It holds the eyepiece lens and connects them to the objective lense
  • Revolving nosepiece
It holds different objective lenses and facilities the changing of objectives
  • Adjusting knobs (A. Coarse adjusting knobs)

It moves the body tube and low-power lenses closer or farther away from the stage to view the image of the specimen. It produces a large vertical movement of the stage with only a partial revolution of the knob
  • Adjusting knobs (B. Fine adjustment knobs)

It is used to bring the specimen into sharp focus to show clearly the detailed parts of the specimen.
  • Different levels of biological organization from cell to biosphere
    1. Biosphere
    2. Ecosystem
    3. Community
    4. Population
    5. Organism
    6. Organ system
    7. Organ
    8. Tissue
    9. Cell
  • Biosphere is the part of the Earth where life exists. It is the part of the Earth where living things exist.
  • Ecosystem: a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment
  • Community: a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common
  • Population: all the inhabitants of a particular place
  • Organism: an individual animal, plant, or single-celled life form
  • Organ system is a group of organs that work together to perform a specific function.
  • Organ: a part of an organism which is typically self-contained and has a specific vital function
  • Tissue: a collection of similar cells working together to carry out a specific task
  • Cell: the basic unit of structure and function in all known living organisms
