Electrolytes
are substances that conduct electricity when
dissolved
or
molten.
The electrode where the anion is
attracted
to is called the
cathode.
The electrode where the cation is
attracted
to is called the
anode.
In electrolysis, electrons flow from the
negative
terminal (cathode) to the
positive
terminal (anode).
At the cathode,
reduction
occurs as electrons
reduce
the metal ion into its
elemental
form.
Metal ions at the anode
lose
electrons to become
positively
charged metal ions.
