HEAT AND TEMPERATURE

• Particle theory of matter states that matter consists of many very small particles (atoms or molecules) are in constant motion and are held together by attractive forces.
• Heat - form of energy/thermal energy that flows between bodies or regions due to temperature difference.
• Conduction - Direct contact of an object.
• Temperature - measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in a substance.
• Normal Body Temperature - 37°C or 37.5°C
• Boiling Point - 100°C
• Freezing Point - 0°C
• Conduction - transfer of heat from one substance to another by direct contact.
• Insulator - Electricity is not allowed to transfer.
• Thermal Conductors - materials that allow heat to be easily transferred.
• Convection Current - cycle of a heated fluid that rises and sinks.
• Radiation - Heat energy can also travel in empty space without contact between the heat source and heated object.
• Best surface for reflecting radiation is shiny white.
• Best surface for absorbing radiation is dull black.
