Reflex arcs

• Reflexes are automatic and do not involve the conscious part of the brain - they help us to avoid danger and survive
• The stimulus is the change
• The receptor is what detects the change
• The impulse is transmitted through the sensory neuron
• The impulse goes from sensory neurons to relay neurons and from relay neurons to motor neurons through synapses in the grey matter of the spinal cord
• The motor neurons transmits the impulse to the effector/muscle
