  • The King (Edward III) got the Lord Mayor of London to clean the streets to prevent miasma. Parliament was closed in January 1349.
  • People fasted, prayed, carried charms or strong herbs and even bloodletting and purging was used.
  • Local governments and communities forced bishops to build more cemeteries as they thought the dead could infect them. Some even quarantined their cities.
