symbol explained

Cards (12)

  • switch: a device for making and breaking the connection in an electric circuit
  • cell: a single unit of a battery which produces a small voltage.
  • battery: collection of more than 1 cell and lasts longer than a single cell before being depleted
  • fuse / circuit breaker : automatically breaks the circuit if the current is too high
  • fixed resistors are resistors that have a fixed resistance value and cannot be changed by the user
(provide a certain amount of resistance)
  • variable resistors: allows user to modify the amount of resistance they want in their circuit.
  • Light dependent resistor (LED): A resistor that changes resistance when light hits it.
  • thermistor: Resistance dependent on temperature
    • High temperature causes resistance to fall
    • Lower temperatures causes resistance to increase.
    • This is used in electronic thermostats
    (THERMISTOR INFO)
  • LED QS. will it be easier or harder for current to flow in the darkness? give reasoning
harder because of the high resistance as there is no light hitting the LED in the darkness
  • Ammeter: measure current (amps)
  • voltmeters: measures the potential difference (voltage)
