Characteristics of Living Things

    Cards (8)

    • Seven characteristics of living things: Movement, Reproduction, Sensitivity, Growth, Respiration, Excretion, Nutrition
    • Movement: all organisims are able to move at some extent. Animals move their whole body from place to place while plants can slowly move part’s of themselves
    • Growth: all living things grow from birth until they die. Plants grow through cell division while animals grow by adding new cells.
    • Sensitivity: organisms respond to changes in their environment by moving or changing shape. This helps them survive.
    • Respiration: the process where an organism takes in oxygen and releases carbon dioxide. It is used as energy source for growth and movement.
    • Excretion: the removal of waste products from the body. Waste products include urea (animals) and glucose (plants).
    • Nutrition: Organisms take substances from their environment and use them to provide energy or materials to make new cells
    • Reproduction: Organisms are able to make new organisms of the same species as themselves
