    The germans did not felt they alone had started the war;
    Losing so much territory was a major blow to German pride and its economy;
    Being left out the international Body felt like a further insult to Germany;

    Germany already had huge debts from the war effort, Germans feared the reparations would ruin the economy

    Because by joining the LON members were expected to disarm which results in member countries being afraid that they would not be able to protect their territories and interests if they were to do so.

    Usa did not join the LON because USA followed the isolationist policy which means it did not want to get involved in other countries affair, without the united states in the league,economic sanctions would be difficult to enforce.

  • The Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, officially ending World War I
  • 32 countries came together in Paris in January 1919 to hold a conference for peace after the First World War
  • The conference was dominated by the Big Three: David Lloyd George representing Britain, Georges Clemenceau representing France, and Woodrow Wilson representing the USA
  • Germany was not invited to the conference
  • The Big Three had different goals for Germany and had to negotiate a compromise
  • Woodrow Wilson opposed harsh punishment for Germany and wanted to prevent another world war by creating the League of Nations based on his fourteen points
  • Georges Clemenceau aimed for the harshest punishment for Germany, including returning Alsace Lorraine to France, an independent Rhineland, huge reparations, disbandment of the German Army, and no League of Nations
  • David Lloyd George's stance was in-between, reflecting Britain's situation with little land damage but high war losses
