  A police officer has to power to stop and search someone is they have 'reasonable grounds'
• What is Power of arrest?

  • To arrest someone the police need 'reasonable grounds' to suspect the person has been involved in a crime
  • They have the power to arrest anywhere and at any time
  • When carrying out an arrest the police must tell the suspect why they are being arrested
• What is Entry, search and seizure?

  • In certain circumstances the police have the right to enter premises and search them to arrest someone or seize items in connection with a crime
  • Police need to obtain a warrant from court before entering and searching premises
  • They may seize anything on the premises if they have 'reasonable grounds' for believing it has been used to commit an offence
