2.7 Employee Relation

• Trade Union- An organization made up of members, and its membership must be made up mainly of workers. Its aim is to protect and advance the interests of its members in the workplace
• Benefits of joining a Trade Union-

  • Improved working conditions
  • Improved pay
  • Improved communication between employees and management
  • possible influence on government decisions
• Industrial Action- An act, done by either an employee or an employer, which prevents the operation of the contract of employment. Forms of action by employees include: 

  • strikes; 
  • go-slows; 
  • overtime bans; and 
  • work to rule.
