  • Lorenz’ work has been very influential leading to a study where chicks were exposed to simple shape combinations that moved e.g triangle. This supports the view that animals are born with an innate mechanism to imprint.
  • It can be argued that Lorenz’ research does not help us understand human attachment. This is because mammalian attachment is more complex than in birds. In mammals the attachment is a two-way process where the young is not the only one that becomes attached. Therefore, it is not appropriate to generalise Lorenz’ ideas to humans.
