  • The baby monkeys cuddled the cloth – covered mother in preference to the plainwire mother and sought comfort from the cloth one when frightened. Harlow found ‘contact comfort’ was more important than food when it came to attachment.
  • He also found the maternally deprived monkeys as adults were more aggressive and less sociable and bred less than is typical for some monkeys. When they became mothers, some monkeys neglected their young and others attacked their children, even killing them in some cases
