prokaryotic

Cards (3)

    • Genetic material is in one double-stranded circular DNA chromosome. Located in the nucleoid region of the cytoplasm as there is no nucleus
    • The genome is smaller containing less non-coding DNA and fewer genes
    • Also contains non-chromosomal DNA called plasmids. They are small rings of double-stranded DNA located in the cytoplasm and replicate independently of the chromosomal DNA. They code for traits that are not essential to the survival of the cell but can pass on genetic material by moving between cells. They also provide bacteria with a selective advantage e.g antibiotic resistance
