double association

Cards (4)

  • Occurs when two patients show a ‘mirror image’ of impairment e.g. person 1 can do task A but not task B but person 2 can do task B but not A
  • Shallice and Warrington -> KF had poor STM but fully functioning LTM following damage to the left parietal occipital lobe during motorcycle accident
  • Scoville and Milner -> HM undergone surgery for epilepsy in which hippocampus was removed. HM was unable to put information in LTM after surgery, but STM was normal
  • Both cases represent evidence of double association and reasonable conclusion that STM and LTM are located in different areas
