Representing Data

Cards (8)

  • what info is included in tables?
    • title that refers to the data.
    • operationalised labelled horizontal axis (x).
    • operationalised labelled vertial axis (y).
    • correct plotting.
  • what is the difference between continuous and discrete data?
    • discrete- limited set of values (whole numbers) e.g. shoe size.
    • continuous- this can have any values e.g. foot length.
  • when do you use bar graphs?
to display discrete data. bars should not touch.
  • when do you use line graphs?
to plot continuous data, e.g. time.
  • when do you use scattergrams?
to display relationship between 2 factors of the correlation. a trend line is used to determine positive, negative, or no correlation.
  • what does a pie chart show us?
divided into sectors to show numerical proportion.
  • what do histograms show us?
    to display continuous data.
    • continuous scores = x axis.
    • frequency = y axis.
  • what is the difference between a bar chart and a histogram?
bar charts- discrete data, bars don't touch.
    histogram- continuous data, bars touch.
