  • The term “livestock” is commonly defined as domesticated animals raised in agricultural setting to produce labor and commodities such as meat, eggs, milk, fur leather and wool. It include animals like cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, carabao and etc.
  • The breeding, maintenance, and slaughter of livestock’s. Known as Animal Husbandry, is a component of modern agriculture that has been practiced in many culture since humanity’s transition to farming from hunter gatherer lifestyles. Animal husbandry practices have varied widely across cultures and time periods, and continues to play a major economic and cultural role in numerous communities.

  • Poultry farming- is the from of animal husbandry which raises domesticated birds such as chickens, ducks, and geese to produce meat or eggs for food. It ha originated from the agricultural era. Poultry- mostly chickens are farmed in great numbers. Poultry production remains at the top of worldwide meat production and the increasing demand for quality by consumers challenges the industry to produce safe, nutritive, appealing, and healthy poultry food.

  • Laying Breeds – These breeds are known for known for their egg laying capacity. Popular laying breeds include the white leghorn, red sex link and back sex link breeds. A healthy hen will lay eggs for several years. Hens begin to lay at approximately 16-20 weeks of age and will lay between 20 – 3 dozen eggs the first year.
  • Meat Breeds – Meat Producing breeds are very efficient at converting feed to meat producing approximately one pound of bodyweight for every two pounds of feed they at. Meat producing chickens are broad breasted and large than the laying breeds. They grow and feather rapidly and weigh five pounds or more at eight week
  • DualPurpose Breeds- is the classic backyard chicken. These breeds are hardy self reliant and fairy large bodied. Most lay large brown- shelled eggs. Some laying and dual- purpose hens tend to get broody, which means they will want to sit on and hatch eggs.
  • Pasture- based systems: in this methods, animals graze on natural or cultivated pastures, consuming grass and other vegetation. It allows for natural feeding behaviors and promotes animal welfare.
  • Intensive farming- involves raising animals in confined spaces, such as feedlots or poultry houses. It aims to maximize production efficiency through controlled feeding, housing, and management practices.
  • Free-range farming: Free range Farming allows animals to roam and forage in a designated outdoor area, providing them with access to natural environment.
  • Aquaculture- involves the farming of aquatic organisms, such as fish, shellfish, and aquatic plants. It can take place in freshwater or marine environments and can be done in tanks, ponds, or cages.
