  • File Management:
    • Necessary for file maintenance or management
    • Type of operating software that manages data files on a computer drive
    • Designed to manage individual or group files
    • Displays report details like owner, creation date, state of completion, and similar features useful in an office environment
    • Also known as a file manager
  • Drives:
    • Folders are stored on a drive in a computer
    • Data can be retrieved from a disk drive
    • Each drive indicates the type of storage medium, for example, whether it is a hard disk, USB drive, CD, DVD
    • The capital letters and colon indicate what type of disk it is
    • C: (C-drive) usually refers to the hard disk drive (HDD)
    • D: (D-drive) usually refers to a CD or DVD drive
    • Other letters like F: are used to indicate storage media, for example, a removable disk (USB)
    • Storage media like DVDs, USBs, and hard drives do not save data to the disks on the computer
  • Nowadays many laptops/notebooks do not come with a CD/DVD/Blue-Ray disc drive
  • Solution for using music DVDs without a CD/DVD drive:
    • Use a mobile external optical drive
    • Insert one end of USB cable into the external CD drive
    • Plug the other end of the cable into your computer's USB port
    • Allow the computer to install the drivers for your external CD drive
    • Usually, the computer will recognize the external drive and automatically install the drivers for the device
  • What is a USB cable?
    • The acronym USB stands for Universal Serial Bus
    • USB cables are "Hot Pluggable" - connect and disconnect cables while the computer is running without fear of freezing the computer
    • USB cables are fast, transferring up to 480Mbps compared to serial communication which transfers data at about 20Kbps
    • USB cables carry power as well as signals, allowing for "USB powered" gadgets and recharging batteries in cameras and other USB peripherals
    • USB cables are designed with several distinct connector types, making it easy to identify which plug goes into the computer and which plug goes into the device
    • USB cables are a universal standard and are fairly easy to find and afford
  • File Path:
    • Defines the location of a file or folder in a computer's file system
    • Also called "directory paths" as they often include one or more directories that describe the path to the file or folder
    • The file path shows to which storage device the file is saved, e.g., Local Disk(C:)
    • Shows in which folder and subfolder the file is saved, the name of the file, and the type of the file (file extension)
