weaknesses of c-i inter

Cards (2)

  • • There are cultural variations in C-I interactions → Although interactional synchrony appears across many cultures, the expression of these behaviours can vary significantly. In some cultures, direct eye contact and facial imitation may be less emphasised, with caregivers displaying responsiveness through other means. Therefore, measuring these interactions strictly based on Western standards may not capture` culturally specific caregiving practices
  • Many studies on interactional synchrony and reciprocity, such as Meltzoff and Moore's, rely on short-term observations, often conducted in controlled lab settings. It also raises questions about ecological validity, as the observed behaviours in a laboratory may not fully reflect naturalistic, day-to-day parent-infant interactions. This approach limits the ability to generalise findings to real-world, everyday interactions between caregivers and infants.
