B14 - Hormonal Co-ordination

Cards (8)

  • The three main ways the body loses water is through sweat, urine and exhalation
  • Water is important in cells because otherwise they would not function as efficiently
  • Process of the Kidneys:
    1. Oxygenated blood is transferred through the renal artery
    2. Useful materials such as glucose, water and salt ions are absorbed through selective reabsorbtion
    3. The leftover products such as urea, excess salt and excess water travel through the renal vein
    4. Urine is then transported to the bladder
  • The two main glands involved in the Mentsrual Cycles are the: Testes and Ovaries
    • Testerone is the male reproductive hormone and is responsible for sperm production
    • Oestrogen is the main female hormone is responsible for maturing the egg and releaseing the egg every 28 days
  • Main Menstrual Hormones:
    1. FSH - produced by the pituitary gland and is responsible for maturing the egg in the ovaries and produces oestrogen
    2. LH - produced by the pituitary gland and is responsible for releasing the egg from the ovaries (ovulation)
  • Main Mentstrual Hormones:
    3. Oestrogen - produced by the ovaries and is responsible for building up the uterus lining. It also inhibits FSH and stimulates LH
    4. Progesteron - produced by the ovaries and is responsible for maintaining the uterus lining. FSH and LH are inhibited
