• Nationalism is the pride and patriotism in one's nation and the desire to preserve it.
• Alliances are signed treaties in which one nation promises to defend another if attacked by an aggressor
• Imperialism is domination by one country of the political, economic, or cultural life of another country
• The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, on June 28th, 1914 "Sparked" WW1
• Central powers were Germany, Italy, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire, Bulgaria
• The Allies were France, Britain, Russia, and eventually the US
• The war was mainly fought in the trenches
• The Sussex pledge was Germany telling the US they would stop shooting ships if they got Britain to drop their blockade
• The Zimmermann note was a telegram sent by Germany to Mexico to engage in war with the US to keep them out of the war. The letter was intercepted by Britain.
• Russia dropped out of the war because of the Russian Revolution
• In the trenches, people could get trench foot, trench mouth, and shell shock
