• Cosmetic labeling requirements include various elements such as:

  • Name of the cosmetic product
  • Instructions on the use
  • Full ingredient listing
  • Country of manufacture
  • Name and address of the company/person
  • Contents given by weight or volume
  • Manufacturer's batch number
  • Expiry date
• The name given to a cosmetic product can be an invented name, together with a trademark or the name of the manufacturer
• Immediate packaging refers to the container or packaging immediately in contact with the cosmetic product
• Outer packaging is the packaging into which the immediate packaging is placed
• Labeling includes information written, printed, or graphic matter on the immediate or outer packaging and any form of leaflets
• Instructions on the use of the cosmetic product should be provided unless it is clear from the product name or presentation
• Ingredients in cosmetic products must be declared in descending order of weight at the time they are added
• Perfume and aromatic compositions may be referred to as "perfume," "fragrance," "aroma," or flavor
• Coloring agents may be listed after other ingredients, following the color index number
• Botanicals and extracts of botanicals should be identified by genus and species
• The country of manufacture must be indicated on the label of the cosmetic product
• The name and address of the company or person responsible for placing the product on the local market should be included on the label
• The contents of the product by weight or volume should be indicated in metric or both metric and imperial systems
• The manufacturer's batch number is an alphanumeric symbol used to identify a batch
• The expiry date of the product should be clearly indicated on the label
• Special precautions must be included on the label to signal the presence of ingredients of animal origin
• All cosmetic products must include the name, instructions on use, full ingredient listing, country of manufacture, name and address of the company, contents by weight or volume, manufacturer's batch number, and expiry date
