wrap the metal block in an insulating layer to prevent energy trasnferring to surroundings
place a themometer in a hole in the block and measure initial temperature
connect a power supply and an ammeter to heater in a hole in block
turn the pd of power supply to 10v and turn it on and start a stopwatch
when power is on, the current transfers energy electrically to the heaters thermal energy store which is then transfered to the materials thermal energy store
as block heats up, take reading of the temperature and current each minute for 10 minutes
calculate power using the formula: power = current x voltage
you can use the power to find out how much any was used at each time the temp was recorded using e=p/t
find the specific heat capacity by using change in thermal energy= mass x specific heat capacity x change in temperature
