• Slave system temporarily holds/manipulates verbal information with two sub-components, capacity of 2 audio seconds, can maintain information order (does sub-vocalising, also called maintenance rehearsal)
• Phonological Store (primary acoustic store or “Inner Ear”) is a passive store of acoustic code for a few seconds temporarily
• Articulatory Rehearsal System (“Inner Voice”) is an active store that uses sub-vocalising to revive memory traces and maintain them in the STM
