Threats to Biodiversity

• Loss of biodiversity leads to an unstable ecosystem
• Natural threats: volcanos, earthquakes and floods
• Habitat destruction: The destruction of land and trees to build roads and buildings
• Climate change: Changes in temperature, rainfall patterns and sea levels are affecting habitats and causing migration of animals.
• Pollution: Pollutants from factories and cars can harm the environment and wildlife.
• Habitat fragmentation: Breaking up of habitats to small isolated pices of land which can prevent breeding
• Unchecked population growth: The more the population grow,the more resources,energy and food humans need
• Agricultural activity: More land is cleared to make farms
• Alien species: A species that has no natural enemies in a new area that invade and take over that area
• Poaching: Killing animals for parts of their bodies
