Failure

Cards (3)

    1. The exiles had little military experience. They received some training from the CIA, but could not compete with the Cuban army
    2. The USA wanted to present the attack as a Cuban effort to get rid of Castro - could not send ground forces or air strikes to support the attack
  • Castro's government found out about the invasion plans and there were 20,000 soldiers ready to fight off the 1,400 invaders.
The USA and exile army falsely assumed that most Cubans would support, but in actual fact, most felt happy with Castro and so didn't want to help overthrow him.
  • Castro showed wrecked aeroplanes and other evidence of Cuban victory to journalists from around the world. America was publicly humiliated for its defeat in Cuba, after it was unable to deny involvement.
