Soil

• The main soil type is Terra Rossa soils.
• Terra Rossa soils are red soils and are prone to erosion.
• Terra Rossa soils are not very fertile but they  can be used for vine growing.
• Soil erosion on slopes is a problem.
• There are volcanic soils near volcanoes e.g. Vesuvius, these are more fertile.
• Fertile alluvial soils found on low-lying areas near rivers.
