Fishing

• Not a major industry in Mezzogiorno, Mediterranean Sea is not a rich fishing ground due to high saline levels, also very polluted from sewage which produces nitrates in the water and encourages growth of algae which uses up oxygen in the water.
• Some small fishing ports catch tuna, sardines, sold for tourists.
