Carbon footprint

Cards (4)

  • What does the carbon footprint do?
Tries to give us an idea of how much something contributes to climate change.
The carbon footprint is the total amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases emitted over the full life cycle of a product, service of event.
  • How can we reduce carbon dioxide emissions?
By insulating our homes, or turning down the heating, we can reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
We can also use public transport more to reduce the carbon dioxide released by cars, these release less carbon dioxide per passenger.
We can also switch to renewable sources of energy e.g. wind power to reduce the use of fossil fuels. We can also reduce how much electricity we use at home e.g. energy saving lightbulbs
  • What are some of the issues with reducing carbon dioxide emissions?
Most of the solutions are expensive meaning people are reluctant to pay. They are also inconvenient, for example, many people prefer driving over public transport.
  • How can we reduce methane emissions?
Eat less beef and less dairy products, however a problem with this is that people enjoy these and are unlikely to change their diets.
Another source of methane are landfills, we can reduce them by trapping the methane and burning it to produce electricity, however this process does cost money.
