  • Define the term production
    The term production refers to the creation of either goods or services it can be divided into three types primary, secondary and tertiary
  • Define the term primary production
    Primary production is the sourcing of raw materials from the ground, under the ground or the sea. Primary production includes farming, fishing, mining and others 
  • Define the term secondary production
    Secondary production involves taking the raw materials produced by the primary industries and working on them to produce a finished good. Secondary industries include manufacturing and construction
  • Define the term tertiary production
    Tertiary production involves providing services to all the other industries and to members of the public. These services include commercial services such as banking, transport and retail, it also includes hospitality, education and medical services
  •   Explain three reasons for changes and employment trends across sectors
    One reason for changes and employment trends is there is little raw materials in NI apart from trees for the timber industry and stone for quarrying. Few people are therefore needed in the primary industries
    Another reason is the standard of education is high in NI so many young people choose to follow professional careers rather than work in primary and secondary sectors
    The last reason is people are spending more time on leisure activities so entrepreneurs have moved to that market
