Islam Practices

• Shahadah- (declaration of faith)

  "there is no God but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger"

• Prayer- is obligatory

  "prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you"
• Fasting- make up fasts

  "anyone who is ill or on a journey should make up for the lost days by fasting on other days later"
• Fasting- Imam, day of judgement

  "bring to your hunger and thirst in Ramadan, the hunger and thirst of judgement day"
• Ramadan- worth

  "is better than a thousand months"
• Ramadan- revelation

  "it was in the month of Ramadan that the Qur'an was first revealed as guidance for mankind... so anyone who is present that month should fast"
• Hajj- duty

  "Pilgrimage to the House is a duty owed to God by people who are able to undertake it"
• Hajj- Imam

  "Perform the hajj...so that your bodies become healthy, your sustenance is expanded and your faith improves"
• Zakah- reward

  "you shall give zakah...you shall find its reward with God in the Hereafter, yet it shall be far better and much greater"
• Khums

  "whatever of a thing you acquire, a fifth of it is for Allah, for the messenger, for the near relative and the orphans, the needy and the wayfarer"
• Jihad- test

  "we shall test you to see which of you strive your hardest and are steadfast...do not lose heart and cry out for peace...God is with you"
• Jihad- Hadith, struggle

  "the person who struggles so Allah's word is supreme is the one serving Allah's cause"
• Jihad- limits

  "God does not love those who overstep the limits"
• Amr-bil-Maruf- commanding to do good


  "be a community that calls for what is good, urges for what is right and forbids what is wrong: those who do this are the successful ones"
• Nahi anil-munkar- avoiding doing bad (HADITH)


  "whosoever of you sees a devil, let him change it with his hands"
• Tabarra- avoiding those who disrespect the Ahl Al Bayt

  Tawalla - showing love to Ahl Al Bayt

  6th imam said Muhammad said this

  "the best and strongest channel of intercession is loving the friends of Allah and expressing dislike for the enemies of Allah"
• Ashura- fasting

  Muhammad said it

  "fasting on the day of Ashura [is of great merit], I hope that Allah will accept it as an expiation for the sins committed in the previous year"
• Id Ul Adha- ismail said to ibrahim

  "do as you are commanded and God willing you will find me steadfast"
