Cards (12)

  • Purpose
-movement, form and structure (muscle and bones work together to create movement)
!NB! bones and skeleton provide a place for muscle to attach
-bones also provide protection to important organs
  • Parts: muscle, bone, cartilage, tendons and ligaments
  • Cartilage: between bones at joints and vertebrae, ears and nose
  • Tendons: Connect muscle to bone & allows muscle to move bone.(inelastic)
  • Ligaments: Connect bones to bones & hold them in place.(elastic)
  • Processes
-muscle contraction and relaxation allows locomotion and movement
  • Locomotion: forward propulsion
    , one place to another
  • Movement: changing position of a body part / the whole body.
  • Health issues: Osteoporosis, Arthritis, Rickets
  • Osteoporosis
    >thinning of bone("porous")
-older women due to hormonal changes

  • Rickets
-deficiency of calcium and vit. D in young children
    >bone is weak and soft causing them to bend.
  • Arthritis
    -degenerative
    -inflammatory
    -infectious
