Magnetic fields

Cards (7)

  • What is a magnetic field?
A magnetic field is an area at which a magnetic pole experiences a force
  • Are magnetic fields 1,2,3 or 4 dimensional?
-They are 3 dimensional therefore they cover the top bottom and sides around the magnet
  • What direction do magnetic field lines travel?
-They travel from the north pole and travels back through the south
  • How are arrows drawn in a magnetic field and what do they display?
-The arrows would point in the direction of the south pole as it goes from north to south. The arrows would also show the direction at which another north pole would go if trying to interact with a magnetic field.
  • What is a magnetic force?

A magnetic force is the push (Repel) or pull (Attract) that is experienced between two magnetic poles
  • Why does this repel and attract force occur?
-This is due to the magnetic field lines coming into contact with each other and if opposite will form a uniform magnetic field between each other but if the same will push against each other repelling. As if they were fighting for space.
  • How is magnetic field strength affected and why?
-They become stronger the closer the magnetic field lines are brought together and weaker the further away. This is due to less magnetic field lines reacting and therefore a weaker connection within the magnetic field. It can also be affected by outside factors such as magnetic material strength.
