Cards (6)

  • What is a moment?
A moment is a turning effect produced by a force acting on an object.
  • Give an example of a moment?

-Using a spanner to on a nut. The force of twisting the spanner owuld be the moment/ turning effect
  • TRUE OR FALSE: Moment is just another name for the turning effect?
-TRUE they both describe the turning effect given after a force is a applied to an object
  • What is a factor that effects moment?

The angle at which the force is applied. The strongest force comes when the force is applied at a perpendicular (90 Degree angle). Pushing at a different angle means less movement and therefore less moment
  • What is the load pivot and force in a wheelbarrow?
-The load is the items inside of the wheelbarrow such as mud. The pivot is the wheel on the wheelbarrow allowing for movement. And the force is the lifting and moving of the wheelbarrow from humans
  • What is the load , pivot and force in a seesaw with a rock on one side?
Load - The rock itself weighing down the seesaw
Pivot- The Fulcrum the plank balances on as it tips the seesaw depending on the forces on each side
Force- The force would be either rocks weight or human weight on the other side which will lift the rock
