Clouds

  • The three main types of clouds are cumulus, stratus and cirrus
  • FORMATION OF CLOUDS
Evapotranspiration occurs after heating up of water bodies and plants by the sun and releases moisture to the air. The invisible water vapor in the air condenses into visible water droplets or ice crystals.  The air gets saturated with moisture, so it starts to condense into a liquid or solid form. As the water vapor goes higher in the sky, it reaches dew point, and the water droplets start to stick to things like dust or ice forming clouds.
  • CIRRUS
    • These are the highest clouds
    • They look like tufts of hair or feathers.
    • They cause no rainfall.
    • In the daytime, they are whiter than any other cloud in the sky.
    • During the sun is setting or rising, they take on the colors of the sunset or sunrise
  • STRATUS
    • They are the lowest lying cloud type.
    • They look like a huge gray blanket or bed sheets.
    • They may cause light drizzle.
  • CUMULUS
    • They are middle height clouds
    • They look like giant cotton balls in the sky
    • They have a flat base and rounded top like cauliflower
    • They cause occasional rain or snow showers
    • The top of these clouds is brilliant white when lit by the sun, but their base is darker.
